What’s it all about?

Most volunteers say they ‘get’ more than they ‘give’. It’s incredibly satisfying to provide such a necessary service to someone in need, and it’s incredibly easy to do. It’s a ride, of course. But it is so much more than that. Riders sit in the front seat, like a friend or a family member, not in the backseat like a taxi or a ride-sharing company. There is good conversation and pretty soon, friendships emerge, and volunteer drivers look forward to the next time they see each of their riders.

Taxis and Ubers pick people up on busy streets at the curb. Volunteer drivers knock on doors, greet people, and escort them into their vehicle. Volunteer drivers may help riders with their seatbelts and load their walkers into the trunk. At the destination, volunteer drivers help people out of the vehicle and may escort them into a doctor’s office waiting room.

Volunteer Driving and Insurance
