Driving Change: The Launch of America’s Volunteer Driver Center

In 2025, ITNAmerica will proudly launch America’s Volunteer Driver Center (AVDC), a public information campaign to change the way Americans think about and support community transportation for older adults and people with mobility challenges. With the launch of AVDC, ITNAmerica takes a giant step forward in meeting the growing transportation needs of older Americans, empowering communities, and inspiring a new wave of volunteer drivers across the country.

Why America’s Volunteer Driver Center Matters
Transportation is more than just getting from point A to point B—it is about freedom, independence, and community connection. For older adults and people with mobility challenges, a ride to the doctor, grocery store, or family gathering can be life-changing. Nonprofit transportation service providers have long been the unsung heroes in this story, offering vital support to their communities. As demand for these popular, local services continues to grow, many organizations struggle to recruit enough volunteer drivers to meet the need. That’s where AVDC comes in.

The Power of Volunteer Drivers
Through decades of experience, ITNAmerica has witnessed the immense impact of volunteer drivers. Not only do they provide life-saving transportation, they also forge meaningful connections with riders. Volunteer drivers share stories of the deep sense of purpose they find in their roles—turning simple acts of kindness into life-changing moments for themselves and their passengers. As one volunteer driver, Jeff, described his experience in an AVDC planning session,

“I hope you emphasize how fun it is to volunteer. It is also so personally enriching.”

AVDC will shine a spotlight on these personal stories through a national public information campaign, inspiring more people to slide into the driver’s seat and make a difference.

A National Effort to Drive Change
In collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and other supporters, ITNAmerica is preparing to launch a campaign that will change the way Americans think about and support transportation for older adults. AVDC brings together leaders from government, business, philanthropy, and the nonprofit sector, working hand-in-hand to ensure its success.

The AVDC website will serve as the final destination of this public information campaign, where people interested in volunteering to drive can connect with nonprofit transportation providers in their hometowns. Nonprofit and municipal transportation providers are also invited to join, gaining access to volunteer drivers in their communities.

Looking Ahead
As we gear up for the 2025 launch of America’s Volunteer Driver Center, we’re filled with excitement and optimism. This initiative represents more than a solution to a pressing challenge—it is a call to action for people across the country to come together, lend a hand, and drive change.

Stay tuned for updates on the launch and how you can be part of this nationwide movement to create a more connected, compassionate future for older adults and people with mobility challenges.
